The BITS HD or Higher Degree exam is the gate way to higher degree programs offered by the Birla Intstitute of Technology and Sciences Pilani
The admission is made to the three campuses of the institution namely Pilani Hyderabad and Goa.
I had given the test on 27th of May this year for electrical and electronics stream and for the benefit of everyone, I am recounting the questions or the area of the questions to give you an idea of what to expect from the exam
Pattern:
The exam consists of two sections, the first one is that of Maths and English. This section comprises of 30 questions and 30 minutes. Each correct answer gives 3 marks and incorrect answer deducts 1 mark. The two sections cannot be taken together, the timer starts for the particular section that somebody choses and after the completion of the respective section only the next section can be taken up.
The questions were from probability distribution functions, expectation, limits, pattern matching, Eigen values and eigen vectors and Cauchy residual theorem
The second section was of technical part pertaining to Electrical and Electronics engineering, note that there are other options for technical part based on your graduation stream for which one can see this brochure. This part comprised of 70 questions and 90 minutes.
The questions were mostly oriented towards digital electronics and analog electronics. Questions pertaining towards buffer amplifier's input impedance, current mirror's output impedance. K-map minimization, initial and final value theorem, filter transfer function, Fourier analysis (response to a particular input to a system) output of logic gates given a particular input were asked.
There were questions from quasi fermi level, op-amps, controllability and observability of a system, The angle of output current phasor with respect to input when passed through an impedance.
I scored a 125/300. I will update as and when there is a development.
Edit 11 June:
I was offered ME Microelectronics at BITS Pilani Hyderabad. There are chances of sliding up to get Pilani campus but for that one has to remit 2,98,900 that includes fees for first semester and admission fees
Edit 8th July:
While filling up the application I had put Pilani microelectronics at the top and Hyderabad micro at the second, in hindsight I think owing to the situation I am going through right now where I have to take care of my mother and shoulder other responsibilities, I should have opted for Pilani embedded systems as my second option, so that I would stay nearer to Agra, where currently I am residing.
Nevertheless, now the 4th iteration has been cancelled and I am going to join Hyderabad campus, I will have to report on 8th of August, failing which my admission will stand cancelled.
